The main takeaways from these readings include:
·       while the theory of generational differences exists and is a valid theory, there is no research at present that indicates instructional designers should modify instruction or instructional strategies to accommodate today’s generation of students
·       there is no reliable and valid research to support the belief that technology has somehow changed today’s generation of students
·       further to the fact that Prensky’s notion of digital natives isn’t based on research, McKenzie does a convincing job of illustrating how Prensky even misused the anecdotal “evidence” that he presents to support his beliefs
·       one thing that can be said about today’s student, based upon reliable and valid research, is that they are more narcissistic than any previous generation
·       However, even faced with these realities many still believe that the students they teach are fundamentally influenced by digital technology and it has changed the way that they learn in the classroom.

  1. Great stuff today. I learned a ton, and all of it was incredibly useful! I am not a twitter user or a blogger, but those things are quickly changing!

    1. I feel you on the twitter and blogger thing. I am going to have to use twitter a bit more. I'm thinking we could use this for Selby's class looking for current educational topics we can share with others. Just a thought.

    1. I liked the conversations about being principals that share our own technology skills and capacity to show support of infusing technology into daily instruction and communication.
    2. I thought I was a little more tech savvy until I started in on the class!
    3.Periscope would be a great way to have teachers and students "see" how others teach specific content in which they may need help with or in.

    Square - Something that squared with me is the need to use multiple platforms to communicate with community, parents, students, etc.

    Circle - Something that's still circling around in my head is how to build a system within the daily school setting to have teachers observing or modeling good use of technology integration strategies to enhance student learning, teacher productivity and capacity, and engagement.

  6. I knew today was going to be a big learning curve for me, and it was. I am interested in different forms of technology that I can take back and help my teachers with. My district has limited professional development surrounding instructional technology and ways to enhance student learning and engagement. I am confident that I will be able to take something back that my staff members can use this year.

    I can see how a blog can be a great tool for individual classrooms and even for the entire school. Teachers are always looking for ways to increase communication with families and among students.

    I am interested in learning more about Periscope. I think this is a great tool to share events at school with families and the community.
